Steal a Moment (NL): Performances for an Urban Playground
Steal a Moment - Performances for an Urban Playground is an interdisciplinary project involving movement, dance and location theatre in public space. A unique crafted performance that playfully reframes urban neighbourhoods, where social choreographies emerge from daily life and the line between performer, audience and passer-by is blurred and stretched. The city is the source of inspiration for this series of movement eruptions and interventions which can be experienced live on the spot, suitable for a diverse public.
For audience as much as the makers, experiencing the city changes and spaces are redefined with new meanings through these interactions: creation of situations that challenge our perception of the assumed rules in public space and creatively make use of them. The city is examined for its potential for fantasy and as a playground for these new experiences. Passer-by as much as audience are considered a partner in this approach.
Steal a Moment is a joint project of choreographer Sarah Kate Gardiner (UK) & theatre maker Jakob Proyer (A). In april 2012 they researched their methodology and created a series of photos and short videos. This material was the base for a 45min site-specific performance that premiered at PUNCH! Festival For New Choreographic Talent hosted by production house Dansmakers Amsterdam in Amsterdam Noord, during October 2012.
